In other random fandom news…

I’ve given up LoMy. I’m not beta’ing, collabbing or creating any more fanfiction with those two (Logan/Remy) going forward. I gave my remaining incomplete stories to Jukebox out on Yahoogroups, she now owns them and may do with them what she wishes. I still have the versions that are uploaded to AFF, but I will not be updating them or replying to critique. Ditto for the archived drafts out on Peja’s WWOMB (Wonderful World of MakeBelieve).

I’ve outgrown that pairing. My friend who turned me on to it and who originally invited me to join that Yahoogroup actually left that group, and I feel disinclined to participate in it now. I also felt somewhat ignored when I chimed in to conversations on different topics, so I couldn’t see giving people twenty-page chapter updates only to be alternately ignored, then nagged about “when are you going to update?” That’s not how I roll.

I’m still shipping RoLo, Smallville and Gundam Wing. Eighties cartoons have been the focus of my artwork, as well as my original paintings in different mediums. My muses were ready for a change.

FYI. I doubt anyone out here cares, but just in case anyone was wondering, since I mentioned it on my Livejournal account.

Going to make myself scarce until 6/5

I’m headed to DC to visit my family, which is exceedingly rare. My pop and his third wife live in Woodbridge. My kid brother lives in Maryland, so I might be lucky enough to meet my nephews for the first time. It’s scandalous that I haven’t yet, since the older one is ten like my daughter. My other stepbrother and stepsister live in the area and said they might make time to visit, which again, would be nice, since they haven’t met my kids, and I’ve only talked to Nic on the phone once. Facebook does not a sibling-like relationship make.

I’ll tweet periodically from my new phone or update my Facebook status. I’ll have my plain old sketch book in my purse, but more than likely I won’t upload any sketches until I get home to my scanner, or until I can sit down at my tablet to copy/amend/recreate them with my pen and Tumbl them.

I’ll be honest. I’ve been dreading this trip as much as looking forward to it. My sister and I have a love-hate relationship even on the best of days. She lectures me to death and points out ten thousand things I’m doing wrong before she’s even given me a decent greeting hello. “What do you have on? You have a big zit on your chin. Your hair’s dry, what are you using for leave-in conditioner? Suck your stomach in and quit slouching. Are you getting enough fiber? Have your thyroid checked.”

Fuck. It gives me heartburn just thinking about it now, and I haven’t even gotten on the plane yet.

At the end of the day, I am who I am. Mother of three. Henpecked younger sister. Constantly underestimated younger daughter. My dad is just as bad as my sister in his own way. He won’t necessarily criticize me directly, so much as ask me why I’m not doing things completely differently. “When are you planning to learn how to drive? Have you considered going back to school? Why don’t you consider giving up dairy? Have you been to a foot doctor yet? You need to take better care of yourself now that you’re getting older. You might do well to take walks every day or swim laps, it’s good for brain function.”
